St Cuthbert's Society JCR Membership (Academic Year 2026 - 2027)
At St. Cuthbert’s Society, over 90% of our students are members of the Junior Common Room (JCR). The Junior Common Room is a charity run by the students, for the students - providing student enrichment through volunteering and fundraising. With over 100 student volunteers, the JCR provides everything you could need for your Durham experience - managing sports and societies, balls and events, welfare services and so much more!
The JCR levy is a paid membership to the JCR - giving you access to facilities (like our gyms, music room and the University’s only student-run library), discounted tickets for JCR events and allows you to take part in our many sports and societies. The JCR levy funds the provision of these things, to help you enjoy university the best you can!
As part of the JCR levy you are able to:
● Participate in over 40 different sports and societies within college.
● Use a variety of facilities including two gyms, a music room, a conference room, and a student-run library.
● Go to events organised by the JCR including Freshers' Week, Michaelmas Ball, The Feast of St Cuthbert, Summer Ball, and Cuth’s Day. On each of
these events you receive a significant discount by being a JCR member.
● Take on leadership positions that support your CV. The JCR is completely democratic and has over 100 positions to fill (no experience required!).
● Get involved in organising student experience; from helping to run finances, welfare campaigns, and even organising our balls.
Cuth’s JCR is an independent charity, which aims to provide development opportunities to enhance students' experience while they're at Cuth's. The JCR
provides the extracurricular opportunities and activities that make Durham different. Don't miss out!
Please contact president@cuths.com if you would like more information, and fco@cuths.com if you would like to split the cost of the undergraduate levy over three annual installments.
