🎗️Charity details
This year Castle is raising funds with the platform of Castle X Hatfield day, for the UK Sepsis Trust.
We have chosen this charity so as to spread important awareness about sepsis, which sadly kills many people particularly within our age group. The funds raised will go to the Just-Giving page in the memory of Chloe Rideout, who at the age of 20 died whilst at University after becoming infected with Sepsis following an appendix operation in 2018. Her death could have been prevented by a better awareness of the symptoms of Sepsis. Her lovely family have kindly shared their story with me so that I can share it with you, and as a college community we can remember Chloe and raise important awareness so that future lives can be saved.
Sepsis kills more people in the UK than breast cancer and prostate cancer put together and it's totally preventable. 50,000 die each year and many more lose limbs from this terrible reaction to infection.
Why is it so important for young people to understand? Young are more likely to die because Sepsis is your body over reacting to an infection and it fights itself. People in their 20's are strong and fit and unbelievably this goes against them. Older people get Sepsis and usually walk out of hospital after some antibiotics.
Awareness and action is key. The money raised through the Castle X Hatfield day t-shirts and formal this year will help the Sepsis Trust make steps towards tackling this problem and providing support for those affected. The Sepsis Trust visits schools, doctors and hospitals to educate and raise awareness of this problem so hopefully another young person doesn't lose their life.
In the run up to Castle X Hatfield day we will be sharing information about Sepsis and the warning signs of infection.
