Event Durham

Durham University have been running summer sculling camps since 2003 and they have grown in size, scope and prestige on an annual basis. They run during July and August every year and are structured to cater for a wide range of ages and abilities. The camps are delivered by Team Durham’s professional rowing coaches who are supported by additional qualified volunteers which ensures all participants are given the optimum opportunity to learn and develop during their time on camp. The camps are run out of Maiden Castle, the university’s £40m sports park close to Durham City centre and our water training centre on the River Tyne in Newcastle. Whilst equipment is provided athletes are encouraged to bring their own boats and blades if they have them. This is to eliminate any familiarisation issues that come with rowing in different equipment. The camps will also include sessions in the indoor rowing tank and, the junior performance and performance camp may also involve sessions in crew boats.

Durham Islamic Finance Summer School (DIFSS) aims to provide such knowledge, skills and expertise, and help place participants in an advantageous position for entering and working in the Islamic financial sector. The programme is delivered mostly by leading Islamic financiers and bankers from across the world.

This is a Turing-funded short summer global internship or international volunteering opportunity for undergraduate students in the following destinations: New York; Seoul: Lisbon; Fiji; Bali; St Lucia; and, Brazil.

The competition is to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the printing of William Shakespeare’s First Folio: Durham University is launching a major new blind juried bookbinding competition inspired by the Durham First Folio. Cash prizes will be awarded to the most outstanding submissions, and the first prize will also win a paid commission to bind a facsimile copy of the First Folio.
