Chancellor’s Installation Ceremony

10:30 Thursday, 29 June 2023 to 11:30 Thursday, 29 June 2023

On Thursday 29 June 2023, Dr Fiona Hill will officially be installed as the new Chancellor of Durham University, in a historic ceremony at the Cathedral.

The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of our University. This high-profile role includes official, pastoral, scholarly and ambassadorial duties, including presiding over Congregation ceremonies and taking part in staff and student engagement activities.

Dr Hill grew up in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. She has gone on to become an acclaimed foreign affairs specialist and authority on Russian and European geopolitics. She is an excellent role model for the value and opportunities that education can bring.

As Chancellor, Fiona joins a select group of prestigious individuals to hold this ceremonial role.

Staff and students are invited to attend the installation ceremony, which will host guests from across the world as well as local dignitaries and personal guests of our new Chancellor.

This ceremony is ticketed and you must register to attend.

Attendance Information:

  • Guests will be seated from 9:45am. Entrance to the Cathedral is via the Galilee Chapel. The ceremony will last approximately 1 hour.
  • Marshals will be present inside the Cathedral, please bring your email confirmation with you (printed or electronically) for marshals to check upon arrival.
