Katherine Hambridge, workshop leader
We are delighted to welcome singers of all ages and levels to our latest Come and Sing workshop, in conjunction with the Durham Vocal Festival.
We celebrate the 125thanniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s death with an afternoon focused on some of his most iconic opera choruses. Led by conductor Katherine Hambridge, with soloists from Durham University, attendees will have a chance to tackle classics such as theTriumphal Chorus(Aida) “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” (Nabucco) and the “Brindisi” (La Traviata), as well as less well-known numbers fromMacbethandIl Trovatore. An exciting (and rare!) opportunity to participate in some of the most dramatic and exciting choral music ever written. (And why not make a choral day of it staying in town for the Messiah performance in the Cathedral at 7pm?)
Repertoire to include:
Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves (Nabucco)
Soldiers' Chorus (Il Trovatore)
Brindisi (La Traviata)
Witches' Chorus (Macbeth)
Triumphal Scene (Aida)
We will use the Oxford Book of Opera Choruses (ed. Rutter), copies of which will be available to borrow or buy on the day.
This workshop is suitable for all singers. A reasonable standard of music reading ability is required.
