Professor Helen Ball’s long-awaited book How Babies Sleep: a factful guide to the first 365 days and nights will be published by Penguin Random House on May 29th 2025. To celebrate the Durham Infancy & Sleep Centre are holding a conference and book launch event on Saturday May 10th 2025 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Durham.
Titled ‘HOW BABIES WORK’, this is a parent-facing event showcasing the work of academics and practitioners who devote their time to helping parents understand how their babies work. From feeding to sleeping to crying to carrying to the first post-birth behaviours, this event will provide parents-to-be and new parents with a wealth of information about what to expect from their babies and how to find balance between meeting their babies’ needs and their own. Babies are, of course, welcome! Advance copies of How Babies Sleep will be exclusively available pre-publication at a discounted price of £15.99 on the day of the event only.
Practitioners are welcome, and certificates of attendance will be provided for those purchasing tickets at the practitioner rate. The conference will not be live-streamed, but recordings of all talks will be made (with speaker agreement). Remote delegates may register in advance to receive links to the recorded talks that will be made available 1-week post conference for a 1-month period.
The early bird registration rates (booking made prior to 1.4.25) are £25 for parents, £30 for practitioners, £20 for recorded access and £25 for recorded access with a certificate of completion. Full-price registration rates (bookings made from 1.4.25) are £35 for parents, £40 for practitioners, £25 for recorded access and £30 for recorded access with a certificate of completion. A £5 cancellation fee will apply to all bookings to cover administrative charges.
