UK Association for Computational Mechanics 2024 Conference (UKACM 2024)

calendar09:00 Thursday, 11 April 2024 to 15:00 Friday, 12 April 2024
The 32nd UK Association for Computational Mechanics 2024 Conference will take place between the 10th and 12th April in the Department of Engineering at Durham University.

This is the main conference in the UK offering an annual forum for academics to present their research on developments in computational mechanics, being an ideal opportunity for the fostering of ideas and the establishing of new collaborative research links, helping to build strong research networks within UK and at an international level.  Previous conferences have proved to be successful technical meetings, with their relative informality contributing to extensive discussion and the presentation of new concepts and ongoing research. They are particularly useful events for drawing together people from different disciplines and providing young researchers with opportunities for presenting their work.

The conference usually attracts around 100 UK-based researchers.  We welcome international speakers but the focus is on the UK community, especially the research being done by PhD students and early career researchers.

Conference talks focus on recent advances in computational mechanics in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Biomechanics/bioengineering
  • Boundary elements
  • Composites
  • Computational Plasticity
  • Contact mechanics
  • Damage mechanics
  • Electromagnetics
  • Finite deformation mechanics
  • Finite elements
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Fluid-structure interaction
  • Fracture and failure mechanics
  • Geomechanics
  • GPUs and HPC
  • Instability analysis
  • Isogeometric methods
  • Large scale linear algebra
  • Material/constitutive modelling
  • Mesh generation
  • Meshless methods
  • Multiscale modelling
  • Multi-physics
  • Particle-based methods
  • PDE & SPDE solutions
  • Phase field-based methods
  • Porous media/porous flow/coupled analysis
  • Solid mechanics
  • Structural dynamics
  • Thermomechanics
  • Wave propagation

The conference will start with a welcome reception on the evening of Wednesday 10th April in the Department of Engineering, followed by the main technical part of the conference on the Thursday 11th - Friday 12th April 2024, starting at 09:00 on  Thursday 11th April and finishing at approximately 15:00 on Friday 12th April. The conference banquet will take place in the Dining Hall of Grey College on the evening of Thursday 11th April.  A complementary school for young researchers will be held on the afternoon of the Wednesday 10th April.
