The 14th November is our Charities Formal when we are also bringing the spirit of Diwali to Grey College! Diwali is a time of celebration and also for thinking of people less fortunate than ourselves. It is fitting that we are combining this with our Charities event to support two charities: the Diwali Foundation and the County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank.
Grey College and JCR would like all attendees to bring one item on the night to donate to the County Durham and Sunderland Foodbank (these can be toiletries, cleaning materials, tinned or ambient (shelf-stable) food and pet food. No fresh or chilled food please. Link: County Durham and Sunderland Foodbank | Facebook
At the end of the formal we will hold a raffle with some great prizes, with all proceeds going to the Diwali Foundation to help their Diwali Basket Brigade, where hampers are distributed by volunteers to vulnerable members of the community, irrespective of faith or background. The evening will include a Bollywood dance demonstration from Bollywood Dance (DU Bolly Soc)! After dinner, everyone has a chance to have a go at India’s most well-known dance style in the JCR with DU Bolly Soc, who will lead a fun workshop and dancing socially together just to have a good time.
