Formal Dinner
Grey College is hosting a welcome back ‘Oktoberfest’ celebration formal. A fantastic, fun evening for all our current students (undergraduates & postgraduates), staff and senior common room members to come together to celebrate the start of the academic year. So, raise your stein and join us in a toast!
The evening will include a delicious two-course menu in our dining hall, followed by an evening of merriment in the Grey Bierkeller and Greyhound Bar with beer (alcoholic/non-alcoholic), music, quiz and complimentary pretzels.
Once booking has closed, Sam, JCR Vice-President will email with more details about table plans etc. Postgraduate students will be seated together, unless otherwise requested.
Bookings will close at 08:00 on 1st October 2026 or when the formal sells-out, whichever is sooner! Refunds cannot be processed once the booking deadline has passed.

Oven-roasted pork joint and crispy pork belly with gremolata mashed potato, confit carrot, fine beans, sage crisp

Portobello mushroom steak with gremolata mashed potato, confit carrot, fine beans, sage crisp (v)
Dessert
Cookies and cream cheesecake with chocolate sauce (v)
Followed by complementary pretzels in the Bierkeller from College!
Dress code: Gowns must be worn. Guests can choose to wear traditional German attire to enhance the immersive Oktoberfest experience!
Time of dinner:7pm to be seated in the dining hall.
Bar will be open to collect drinks from 6pm – 6.30pm
Bookings and Cancellations
Places can be cancelled until bookings close at 08:00 on 1st October 2026 or when the formal sells-out, whichever is sooner. After this time, no cancellation or refund will be possible. To cancel a place before this time, please log-in to your Ecommerce account and cancel it, and then please email grey.college@durham.ac.uk so the payment can be refunded.
